Slovenian Family Wines
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
‘We are 480 families that grow and produce wines in the most astonishing wine region, Gorišcka Brda.’
Slovenia, Slovenian Family Wines, Gorišcka Brda, Cabernet - Merlot, 2012

Introduction
The region is west Slovenia, against the Italian border, and Brda is a community. The wine is bottled by Klet Brda (klet = cellar) – Družinski Vinogradi (family vineyards). The label states hand harvested.

Slovenia sees a role as a producer of better-quality wine, lately exporting more, producing in general more white than red. The wine production was more or less in tune with the local needs, ranking fourth in the world in per capita wine production.

Wine specifics
Ready to drink, can still keep for while. Ruby red, strong, full taste, red berries, vanilla. Serving all meats, vegetable dishes, medium-mature cheeses. Obtained in the Netherlands, may not be available in the UK. Screwtop.
Insights:
Klet Brda goes back to 1957 as a cooperative and is still owned by its members, bottling a wide variety of wines: white, sweet white, red and sparkling, based on a very wide range of grape varieties, including indigenous ones, such as Rebula. Slovenia has more wine growing regions on the eastern-south eastern side of the country.
