Quinta das Amoras
Castelão, Camarate, Tinta Miúda, Touriga Nacional
Vinho Tinto, estate bottled, near Lisbon
Portugal, Lisboa, Quinta das Amoras, Vinho Regional Lisboa, Casa Santos Lima, Vinho Tinto, 2014
Introduction
The makers are the family owned, award winning, Casa Santos Lima, representing in their wines five regions, with several estates, Lisboa being their main wine region. The majority of vineyards are near Alenquer, 45 miles north from the capital Lisbon. The winery has been around since the turning of the 19th century, with a total relaunch in the 1990’s by the descendants of Joaquim Santos Lima; from new vines to production and marketing.
With the Atlantic at a stone’s throw, the award winning wine estate really took off with its own branding of wines, exporting these days 90% of their production. This particular wine is a blend mostly of Castelão, Camarate, Tinta Miúda and Touriga Nacional and coming under the Vinho Regional Lisboa. The winery is the largest producer of Vinho Regional Lisboa (and DOC Alenquer).

Insights:
Vinho Regional Lisboa, formerly called Estramadura, is one of the most productive wine regions in Portugal, which holds also a number of DOC’s, even though the Vinho Regional is often preferred by producers. The five regions Casa Santos Lima covers are Lisboa, Algarve, Alentejo, Vinho Verde and Douro, producing a very wide selection of red, white and rosé wines, often using native grape varieties. Quinta das Amoras stands for farm of blackberries, which bushes make up the natural borders of the vineyard. CVR – Comissão Vitivinícola da Região.
