Viña Maipo
Shiraz
Chilean wine, ‘with the church tower’, one to follow
Chile, Valle Central, Viña Maipo, Shiraz Reserva, 2012

Introduction
The Viña Maipo winery is part of the large Concha Y Toro group, who is based in Santiago, with Viña Maipo originally dating back to 1948, in the heart of the Maipo valley, which forms part of the Central Valley. 20 Years later Concha Y Toro took over the winery, increased production and quality very considerable of Viña Maipo, expanding its brand globally.

Since 2007 winemaker Max Weinlaub set the tone for the wines, making renowned wines, using the best conditions to its maximum. The church of Maipo has been at the heart of the town’s community since 1583 and the winery uses its contours in its labelling. The selection has become quite extensive and reliable over the years, bringing the best grapes from different wine regions in Chile.

Insights:
Viña Maipo is also represented, other than Maipo, in the Casablance valley (for mainly whites), Rapel valley (Colchagua and Cachapoal) and Maule. The latter is actually the largest wine region in Chile and holds the longest tradition in wine making. All these regions, south from Santiago, are under the influence of the ideal climate from the Pacific Ocean, good soil conditions and the Andes Mountain range in the back.
