Reestlander Wit
Johanniter, Solaris
Dutch white, a blend of the Johanniter and Solaris grape
The Netherlands, de Reestlandhoeve, Reestlander Wit, Reestdal, Johanniter-Solaris, 2014

Introduction
The wine is made by de Reestlandhoeve, under ownership of John and Wilma Huisman, based in Balkbrug, not far from Zwolle in the Netherlands. Established in 2003, they have just celebrated their 12½ years anniversary. The estate was before a dairy farm and due to personal circumstances, they changed their business into in a complete vineyard and for quite some time it was the most northern vineyard in the country.

In addition to a biological and sustainable approach in their wine business, the estate also offer a form of social (day) care to people with psychological impairment, as well as coaching, through ‘working’ on the farm. It is also open to people who have no options (any more) to have paid employment, but still like to be actively involved in society. The whole setup adds to a product that they are all very proud of.

Wine specifics
Ready to drink. Fresh, crisp, dry, apple fruity, hint of citrus. Serving asparagus, fish dishes, salads, just on its own. Obtained in the Netherlands. Screw top. The label also states, to where it is from, Reestdal (Reest valley) and the name of the province Overijssel.
Insights:
Johanniter grape is grown mostly in Germany and Switzerland, with the Netherlands having similar conditions. The grape is a purpose bred and fungus resistant variety. Solaris can be grown under the same conditions and blends well for flavour. At de Reestlandhoeve it is quite popular to lease your own 10 vines (or more) and have your own annual set of bottles of wines, including personalised labeling. The estate is active with a wide variety of activities, throughout the year, all centred around the estate and their wines.
