Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc
‘Vino Ecológico’, crisp vegan white blend from Utiel-Requena DO region, Spain
Spain, Utiel-Requena, Rebel.lia, Utiel-Requena DO, Chardonnay-Sauvignon Blanc, 2017

Introduction
Viñedos & Bodegas Vegalfaro produced this Chardonnay-Sauvignon Blanc and are based in the town of Requena, 40 miles west from the town of Valencia. Having grown vines for generations Andrés Valiente decided in 1999 to build his own award-winning winery together with son Rodolfo within the large estate. There are various organic vineyards, each with their own characteristics and micro climates.

For the wine the vines are grown double guyot on trellis; training two fruiting arms along a main wire (it is a system also quite often adopted in general gardening). Additionally they allow green harvest to limit yields and enhance ripening and flavour concentration. Harvest is usually the first week of September. The Chardonnay part of the wine (50%) is aged in French oak barrels, crianza way, which is one year. In the award winning Rebel.lia range there is a white, red and rosé.

Wine specifics
Ready to drink and can still keep for a little while. Balanced, clear, yellow colour, dry, crisp, hints of citrus, spice, tropical fruits. Serving starters, white meats, grills, fish, salads, on its own. Unusual labeling design with the name upside down, minimum of text on a white background and a little ladybird. This novel way of labeling has contributed largely to its success. Certified Vegan logo on the back label, together with EU green ‘leaf’ organic logo. Furthermore a certification by ENAC, another internationally accepted accrediting environmental monitoring and controlling scheme in the region (as well as Spain). Utiel-Requena DO seal. May be available in the UK. Cork.
Insights:
For this wine the two grapes are grown on vineyards Finca Casa Alfaro and Pasamonte. In 2011 the winery received the Pago status (DO Pago), a terroir reference, which is reserved for single estates of particular remarkable wines; in characteristics and quality. Comparable to a Château, Cru or Clos. The range is from the vineyard Pago de los Balagueses, producing 2 reds and 1 white. Other than the wines mentioned there are few more ranges and the winery exports extensively.
