Les Confréries
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
Vin de Pays from South-west of France, départment d l’Aude, by Yvon Mau
France, Les Confréries, Yvon Mau, Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon, Vin de Pays de l’Aude, IGP, 2015
Introduction
Centre of the l’Aude region is the fortified medieval town of Carcassonne, western Languedoc. Within this region various wine areas can stand on their own, such as the AOC’s of Corbières, Fitou, Limoux and Malepère, to mention some. This one is ‘just’ an IGP, a blend of merlot and cabernet sauvignon, however it is produced by Yvon Mau.
Yvon Mau has been around since 1897, in the region of Bordeaux, in Gironde sur Dropt, and is since 2001 part of the Freixenet group (9th largest wine group in the world). The founder’s son, Yvon, gave eventually the name and logo to the company, a man cycling on a penny-farthing, as his way of travelling visiting vineyards around 1914, as horses had been requisitioned for the war effort. Yvon Mau produces obviously many wines from the Bordeaux region and furthermore from other French regions, such as this one. Their range is extensive, from very upmarket to the Vin de Pays’
