Introduction
Grossberg has been produced by Louis Sipp, based in Ribeauvillé village centre, as one of their 5 single vineyards wines, all near the village, which they have established after years of experiencing. A low yield and matured in oak barrels. The terroirs of each vineyard are specific and enables them to make special cuvée’s, each with their own personality; this one in combination with the pinot noir.
The Louis Sipp parcels of land are within the boundaries of Ribeauvillé. Alsace is mostly known for its whites and when it comes to reds pinot noir is their basis. The other 4 single varieties from Sipp are Hagel with Riesling, Steinacker with Riesling, Rotenberg with Gewürztraminer and Trottacker with Pinot Gris. All grown by organic farming, which is a driving part of the Sipp operations.

Insights:
The label tries to express its heritage and also mentions ‘calcaires et grès’, meaning a combination of limestone and sandstone, both ideal for pinot noir. This circumstance is further enhanced by the position of the vineyard, south, south-west. The colour of the labelling is ochre, representing the colour of the earth, light brownish-yellow.
