Gran Coronas
Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo
Cabernet Sauvignon from a Catalan giant of fine Spanish wines, Miguel Torres
Spain, Catalunya, Penedès, Torres, Gran Coronas, Reserva, Cabernet Sauvignon, DO, 2013
Introduction
Penedès DO narrows this wine down to its origins. It is at the same time the main DO in Catalunya, just west from the town of Barcelona. The Torres family roots go back to the 17th century and there has always been some winemaking. In 1870 the brothers Jaime and Miguel founded Bodegas Torres. The renowned family owned winery and winner of so many awards is based in Pacs, near the town of Villafranca del Penedès.
The name Coronas was registered by Torres as a trademark in 1907. The president of the company is Miguel A. Torres, whilst his son Miguel is the general manager of the Torres Group. In Spain the company has various vineyards, estate, wineries and represents various other Spanish regions, such as DO Rueda, DO Rías Baixaa and DOC Rioja. The group has also (large) wine operations in Chile since 1979 and in California in Sonoma County (near the town of Sebastopol) with the first planting in 1986, Marimar Estate.
