Stamford Brook
Merlot
A Merlot as you can expect from South East Australia
Australia, South East Australia, Stamford Brook, Merlot, 2012

Introduction
Stamford Brook comes under the flag of South East Australia, which means that wines from the inland river regions are labelled South Eastern Australia, a GI (Geographical Identification) used in general for many wines made from the blended produce of virtually anywhere other than Western Australia.

The wine is produced for Sainsbury’s and there is a link to the Angove Family Winemakers, who were established in 1886. Originally from Cornwall and are based in Renmark, 200 kilometres north east from Adelaide, in the Riverland wine area, which is centred around the river Murray.

Insights:
Thomas Angove, former owner, invented the first wine cask, now quite commonly known as bag-in-box. Riverland is home to over 25 wineries and between them they produce approx. 30% of Australia’s wines and most on a large scale of quantity and still of a high quality. Major brands are produced here, such as Angove and Banrock Station. No handpicking here, using the most sophisticated (night) harvesting and production methods. The Australians call the harvest the crush.
