France, Languedoc, Malepère, Château de la Soujeole, AOC, Gérard Bertrand, Cuvée Monseigneur, 2014

Introduction
A wine area west of the medieval town of Carcassonne and the 33 ha. Château vineyard is near the commune of Montclar, just 10 km west from this historic fortified town. Having been a vineyard dating back to the 18th century; since 2012 Gérard Bertrand runs the management of this property for the family. The current family owner is Monseigneur Bertrand de la Soujeole, who combines this passion with being the bishop of the Carcassonne basilica since 2010, after having served at the Vatican and on missions in Africa.

The word ‘la soujeole’ means little stream, of which there was one near their land and the family took this name in the 18th century and has held on to the property name since. Under the wing of Gérard Bertrand the development and on-site investments of the vineyard have continued, benefitting from the company’s extensive facilities, knowledge and distribution connections, having 13 owned or managed estates properties in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. This wine is named a ‘Cuvée Monseigneur’ and considered by many as good as a good Bordeaux.
