Château Baudare
Négrette, Cabernet-Sauvignon
Fronton, a small AC to watch, just north from Toulouse
France, Fronton, Château Baudare, AC, Cuvée Prestige, 2013
Introduction
A winery in south-west France, based in Labastide Saint-Pierre, 10 kilometres south of the town of Montauban. This is on the northern point of the Fronton wine region, between the rivers Tarn and Garonne. Five generations of Vigouroux, starting in 1882 with 8 hectares in Campsas with Léon, whose ancestors were also a little involved in wines. It developed slowly and in 1966 the estate expanded with another 15 hectares in nearby Labastide, making it in total 35 hectares of vineyards for the Château.
At present it is Claude and David Vigouroux, together with David’s wife Claire, that run the estate and in 1977 they were one of the first to comply under the then young Fronton AC, which applies to the red and rosé. In Fronton the grape variety Négrette is grown, specific to Fronton and makes up a minimum of 50%, upto 70%, of the Fronton AC blend. The Fronton region has known wine growing since Roman times, with these days 85% of the Fronton wines being red.

Insights:
The vines in the vineyards have an average age of 35 years. Every year a section of vines is replanted by the family. The various grapes are harvested in the window of early September to early November. There is a range of red and whites wines, based on blending, ageing in oak, bottling and so on, all happening on site. Over the years various awards have been won, as with this red.
