Aliança stands traditionally for 11 associates forming an alliance, with now more than 80 years of wine producing.

Bacalhôa itself started in 1922 and was acquired by José Berardo, who acquired himself more properties and who went into a partnership with the Lafitte Rothschild group. They are based in the historic Quinta de Bacalhôa, a former royal house, in the Setúbal wine region, 10 kilometres west of the town Setúbal.
