Introduction
The winery is well recognised as a major player and is at the same time a groundbreaking Fairtrade operation since 2011. 58 Families representing 240 members are all involved in the winery and 160 ha. from 4 vineyards, all benefitting under the social program of The Flores del Monte Association. The French wine maker Matthieu Grassin oversees the wine making process, producing great wines, like this one under the Finca Monteflores range.
This wine is linked to M&S with its own labeling and together with Grassin it is involved in its sourcing of this Malbec. Grassin has been with the winery since 2006 and his wines have been well reviewed and award winning. The estate’s address is the village of Chacras de Coria, just south from the town of Mendoza, in the department of Lujan de Cuyo, where the bottling also takes place and is owned by the d’Aulan family. The family also owns the nearby renowned Alta Vista winery since 1998 and are also based in Chacras de Coria.

Insights:
This wine has been aged for 6 months in French oak barrels. The family d’Aulan history goes back far and they have invested in the alcohol industry since the 18th century. They also own e.g. the Champagne houses Piper Heidsieck and Tattinger and in Hungary Château Dereszla (reviewed under no. 132). Lujan de Cuyo is also the name of one of the sub wine regions south from Mendoza.
