Orbitali
Corvina Veronese, Rondinella, Molinara
With a reputation of being a light and fragrant red, Valpolicella from north-east Italy
Italy, Valpolicella, Orbitali, DOC, 2014
Introduction
The wine is from the wine region in the Verona Province, with Bardolino and Soave as their neighbour. The Valpolicella region has outgrown its original Classico region and borders on Soave, getting its DOC status in 1968. The three grapes that usually contribute to a Valpolicella are Corvina Veronese, Rondinella and Molinara.
This wine is linked to Cantine Riondo Spa, a major wine producer and bottler, in Monteforte d’Alpone, a town 25 km east from Verona. The company was established in 2008 and represents more than 2400 associated farmers, growing a large number of grape varieties. The plant bottles a wide variety, under various labels and each with their individual qualities.

Insights:
Wine making in the region goes back to the ancient Greeks. Most Valpolicella is produced in ‘nouveau’ style, where wines are released quite soon after the harvest, a bit similar to the Beaujolais Nouveau. Valpolicella Classico is wine from the original Classico region. Valpolicella Superiore is aged for at least 12 months and Valpolicella Ripasso is a form of Superiore made with partially dried grape skins left from the fermentation of the Amerone wine.
