Sauvignon Blanc
Not the Victorian world train traveler, but a wine from the western corners of Romania, Bradshaw
Romania, Bradshaw, Sauvignon Blanc, The Illustration Series, 2014

Introduction
Bradshaw wine is made by the British-Romanian company, former state cooperative, Cramele Recaş in the village of Recaş, western Romania, near the Hungarian border. Recas is the main producer in the Romanian part of the region called Banat, which traditional region these days spreads over three nations, whose wine making traditions go back to Roman times and e.g. records show that the Recaş vineyards changed hands in 1447.

Later, with strong Bavarian influences in winemaking throughout the 18th century, the area developed into a well recognised wine region. The Recaş winery is these days a large and modern operation, making wine for the home market, as well as for the export market and in some case under private label. The wine knowledge from couple Australian Hartley Smithers and Spanish Nora Iriarte has benefited the wine operation well with their involvement since 2005.

Insights:
The Bradshaw series holds two other wines, pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon; all labels with the peacock theme of drawings. The winery produces a wide range of wines, white, red and dessert wine. Romania is currently the 7th biggest wine producer in Europe. During the Old Soviet era even more wine was produced, from the 1960’s onwards, but this shrunk again considerably in the early years of this century. Romania still imports wines as well.
