Palacio Rojo
Tempranillo, Bobal
A Gran Reserva, only 9 months in US oak
Spain, Palacio Rojo, Gran Reserva, D.O. Valencia, 2007

Introduction
D.O. Valencia states that due to the climate conditions in the Valencia wine region, the aging can be shorter, as the higher temperatures accelerate the ageing more than other Spanish wine regions. This wine is linked to Cheshire based Boutinot and produced by Torrre Oria, in Requena, ca. 100 kilometres west of the town of Valencia, producing DO’s in the wine regions of Valencia and neighbouring Utiel-Requena.

Insights:
Valencia DO, made up of two areas, is split up in 4 subregions, each very much with their own wines and characteristics; north to south, Alto Turia – mainly white, Valentino – white and red, Moscatel – liqueur wines and the most southern bit, Clariano – red dominates. A Gran Reserva is usually aged for five years or more (2 in cask and 3 in bottle) and intended only in exceptional vintages, decided by the producer and in Valencia this is 9 months of oak ageing. Crianza and Reserva can be shorter as well, resp. 3 and 6 months.
