Insights:
Durif is known in the USA and Israel as Petit Sirah, with California and Australia being the main producers of this grape. The Stump’s wine maker is Alan Kennett, calling the Durif Shiraz something magical. In Australia ‘Black Stump’ means an imaginary point beyond which the country is remote or uncivilised (the back of beyond), which is further expressed with an atmospheric drawing of a tree stump on its label.
