Pouilly-Fuissé
Chardonnay
By Château de la Tour de L’Ange, reputedly sold to King Louis XIV back in the 17th Century following a tasting in Paris
France, Burgundy, Grand Vin de Bourgogne, Château de la Tour de L’Ange, Pouilly-Fuissé AC, 2012
Introduction
Pouilly-Fuissé is an appellation for white wine in the Mâconnais region, in the centre of Burgundy and using solely the Chardonnay grape. The AOC was created in 1936 and, as there was no initial interest, holds no Premier Cru’s, even though some producers now have an ambition to achieve one.
The property is since 2008 part of the Maison Béjot Vin & Terroir group, originally founded in 1891 in Beaune and now owned by the Sauvestre family, with various vineyards in Burgundy and Southern France, Languedoc. The centuries old Château is based in Davayé, with vineyards spread out over various villages in the nearby area. They grow Chardonnay for their whites and Gamay for the reds.

Insights:
Maison Béjot Vin & Terroir, whilst specialising in Burgundy wines, is a major player in distributing French wines (e.g. through its shops), active in growing, producing, bottling and distributing still and sparkling wines, e.g. Crémant de Bourgogne, from their own estates. The business approach is a blend of modern and tradition, all aimed at quality and a satisfied client. Their words:’ Tradition – Satisfaction – Modernité – Héritage – Authenticité’.
