Domaine de Fesle
Cabernet Franc
A small AOC within Anjou, Anjou-Villages-Brissac, a red from the Loire Valley
France, Val de Loire, Anjou, Domaine de Fesle, Anjou Villages Brissac AOP, Cabernet Franc, 2014
Introduction
The 18 ha Domaine is owned and bottled by Château La Varière, based in Brissac, just south of the town of Angers. At one time owned by a feudal lord, the medieval Chateau’s wines history dates back to the 15th Century, with 2 cellars dating back to that period. Currently they have 110 ha of vines and they represent most of the Anjou AOP wines, owned by the Beaujeau family since 1850 and now in its seventh generation with Jacques Beaujeau at the helm; a Vigneron Indépendant
A very well respected wine producer with a large selection of wines and most known for its sweet wines, the very small appellation of Quarts de Chaume (the Loire’s first Grand Cru) and Bonnezeaux. This award winning Cabernet Franc wine is promoted under the ‘Reflets de France’ brand; Carrefour’s supermarket brand with a wide range of the best regional French products, all endorsed by recently deceased multiple Michelin star’s chef Joël Robuchon.

Insights:
The Anjou region is traditionally most known for its sweet white wine, a result of the autumn sunshine and noble rot. Dryer white wines are now produced as well using Chenin Blanc, locally known as Pineau de la Loire, hand-picked and use of a little oak. And obviously Cabernet Franc has found its way in, with some nice reds. There are currently 217 producers involved in the ‘Reflets de France’ brand, which was started in 1996, representing wines, cheeses, jams, biscuits and many more regional products.
