Barefoot
Pinot Grigio
Born in 1965 in a garage, turned a sleepy brand and given sole in 1986; Barefoot Cellars had arrived.
USA, California, Barefoot, Pinot Grigio, NV
Introduction
From then onwards the brand grew, supporting financially very many non-profit organisations as they went along. Michael Houlihan and Bonny Harvey were at the forefront and apparently it is Bonny’s footprint when they were looking at their labelling. Based in Modesto in the county of Stanislaus, approx. 150 km east from San Francisco.
They started with 2 varietals, Californian Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. In 1995 they were joined by Jennifer Wall, the winemaker, the woman behind the Barefoot wines. She started when they were making 4 wines, now they are making an extensive award winning range, including sparkling wines. In 2005 they joined forces with E & J Gallo Winery, the growth just continued and Barefoot was introduced to the UK in 2007.

Insights:
Its founders believed that wine should be more fun and less serious; the label supports that and created a wine that could be enjoyed by everyone. Houlihan and Harvey, once they sold up to Gallo, wrote a book about their success, The Barefoot Spirit and these days they share their experiences by public speaking and training around the globe, to enthuse new companies and others.
