Nero d'Avola
From the hillside vineyards of sunny Sicily, where the Nero d’Avola grape has its home.
Italy, Sicily, Palazzi, Terre Siciliane IGT, Nero d’Avola, 2013

Introduction
Produced by Adria Vini, a cooperation venture setup in 2003 between Boutinot and Araldici Vini Piemontesi. They work closely with local growers and cooperatives, to make wines that represent the region(s) to its best, as well as being value for money.

Sicily was at one time among the most productive wine regions in Italy. These days other Italian regions have taken that position and the Sicilians are focused more on quality and its own heritage, producing good wines, including whites and Marsala. The island’s production is still quite traditional; continue to work on its origins, not influenced much by ‘the consultants’ of the wine world, with many growers combined in cooperatives.

Wine specifics
Ready to drink, can still keep for while. Plummy, juicy red, some hints of chocolate, spice, good finish. Serving on its own, good food wine, red meats, pasta, cheese. The bottle screw top holds ‘an interpretation’ of the triskelion, the fascinating and classic symbol of Sicily with the head of a woman surrounded by three legs. Bottle obtained in the UK. Screwtop.
Insights:
Boutinot was established in 1980 and developed into one of the leading UK based distributors of wines from around the world, with around 15 countries and over 1400 wines, supplying the UK and beyond. However, Boutinot is also involved in the production of wines, which sets them apart from other distributors. Araldica Vini Piemontesi is an Italian cooperative group with around 300 members and around 900 hectares in north-west Italy.
