Five generations of wine making and skills at the core
Australia, South Australia, Benchmark {Grant Burge}, Chardonnay, 2013
Introduction
Grant Burge Barossa, a family business since 1885, when John Burge and his family arrived in Barossa, from Wiltshire England. Grant Burge, the fifth generation, was born in 1951 and he stepped into the wine making footsteps of his ancestors and is continuing this successfully to the present day. They are based in the Barossa valley, halfway between the towns of Tanunda and Lyndoch, ca. 80 kilometres north of Adelaide.
Barossa is seen as one of the most diverse areas for wine growing and producing great quality. The terroir and weather conditions in general are ideal and Grant Burge is involved in all stages of the wine making. The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Barossa Valley, nearby Eden Valley and the Adelaide Hills. A small part was aged in oak barrels. The valleys of Eden and Barossa wines fall under ‘Barossa’ when blended.

Wine specifics
Ready to drink and can be left for a little while. Fresh, citrus, floral, hints of melon. Serving creamy pastas, chicken dishes, seafood or just on its own. Obtained in the UK. Screwtop. A note on the labelling, mentioning using milk products in the production, not unusual in (Australian) wine making.

Insights:
The winery is surrounded by renowned wine makers, such as McGuigan, Jacob’s Creek, Turkey Flat, Lehmann, just to mention a few. Big global corporations have a large presence in Barossa. The river North Parra runs between many of them and spreads into the Eden Valley. The Grant Burge wine range is extensive, including sparkling wines, tawny’s and more.
