Saint-Véran
Chardonnay
A well recognised white, Burgundy and from Mâconnais
France, Saint-Veran, AC, Blason de Bourgogne, Grand Vin de Bourgogne, 2013

Introduction
Saint- Véran is an AOC for white Burgundy wine from the southern part of the Mâconnais region, located in the department of Saône-et-Loire, west of the town of Mâcon, sharing the region with the likes of Pouilly-Fuissé. In a way the Pouilly-Fuissé region runs through the middle of it.

This wine is bottled by the award winning Les Vignerons des Terres Secrètes, based in Prissé, producing a wide range of Burgundy wines, including Crémant de Bourgogne. A step up in quality in Saint-Veran is the mention of the village, of which 43 are allowed their own AC, which was established in 1971. There are 6 of the 8 communes, Saint-Vérand (with a d) is one of them, in the southern part of this region, that fall under the AOC.

Insights:
Chardonnay accounts for about two-thirds of all the Mâconnais wines, with the reds related to the Gamay grape. The region is quite small with in total ca. 700 hectares. Not to confuse the wine with the village of Saint-Véran, in the French Alps, close to the Italian border. Blason de Bourgogne is an association of ca. 800 Burgundy families of growers, having a profit sharing, resulting in protecting the heritage, authentic craftmanship, as well as having social benefits, ultimately allowing families to continue to sustain their business, growing wines from generation to generation.
