Roversi
Pecorino
A refreshing white, from the Italian central eastern Abruzzo region, based on the pecorino grape
Italy, Roversi, Pecorino, Terre de Chieti, IGT, 2013
Introduction
The region is 80 kilometres east from Rome, which holds the province of Chieti, where this wine comes from. The wine is produced by MGM Mondo del Vino, a major Italian wine maker, who exports much of its wines and was founded in 1991.
The white pecorino grape represents 25% of the Chieti provinces wine output, however, being part of Abruzzo, this area is more known for its red wine, often referring to the Montepulciano grape. The company takes its social responsibilities serious and works on its green credentials, as well as on various certifications.

Insights:
MGM represents an extensive number of Italian wine brands, with white and red wines from all around Italy. IGT stands for Indicazione Geografica Tipica, which is a wine classification, coming after DOCG and DOC. It specifies the area of the wine, the varietal and the vintage, but does not meet the higher specification of a DOCG and DOC. Some compare it to ‘Vin de Pays’ and is a step up from ‘Vin de Table (Tavola)’. There are 60+ IGT’s, which have increased in popularity. The lowest ranking is Vino de Tavola or Vino d’Italia.
