Morgon
Gamay
One of the Crus of the Beaujolais, considered strong, warm and spicy
France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon, AOC, Antoine Barrier, 2014

Introduction
Morgon is the second largest Crus in the Beaujolais, with just south the larger area of Brouilly. The Gamay grape sets the tone for the wine and Morgon area is centred around the well known volcanic Côte de Puy. The wine is bottled by Pellerin Domaines et Chateaux, part of the Boisset Group ‘La Famille des Grands Vin’, for Scamark.

Jospeh Pellerin founded in 1912 his winery and has since become part of Boisset, which was only started in 1961 by Jean-Claude Boisset, a former army man and who rapidly expanded, with its base eventually in Nuits St. George. The portfolio is extensive and diverse, including Bouchard Aîné and Mommessin, to mention some. In 2011 Boisset acquired in California the Buena Vista Winery, Sonoma, one of the oldest producers in the region, since 1857, substantially expanding the Boisset business.

Morgon is among the 4 fullest bodied wines in the Cru Beaujolais, together with Chénas, Juliénas and Moulin-à-Vent, aging well in the bottle. This wine comes through the large-scale distribution of the French E.Leclerc supermarket chain, who work with associated growers who then produce within their Scamark guidelines, created in 1997, developing and distributing private labels.
