Pinot Noir Alsace
Pinot Noir
Red from the Alsace; something to explore when you see them
France, Alsace, Pinot Noir, Nature’S, Louis Sipp, 2012

Introduction
This Pinot Noir is from Louis Sipp, from the picturesque village of Ribeauvillé, Haut Rhin. Well established winery and the dry red is among the better ones. This one is the Nature’S version, referring to their organic farming; Nature stands for Organic and the ‘S for the Louis Sipp signature. The character or the wine is influenced by its terroir, between the Vosges mountain range and the river Rhine.

The Louis Sipp parcels of land are within the boundaries of Ribeauvillé. Alsace is mostly known for its whites. The reds, with the pinot noir as their base, form approx. 10% of the total wine production, of which most is not exported. In general, the Alsace wines are exported to countries near to France and the USA and only a small proportion to the UK.

Insights:
Within the AOC regulations, the harvest time tends to be around early September, every time assessed on the conditions of that year. Ribeauvillé is one of the AOC villages and is part of the Route des Vins d’Alsace, a 170 km long road, crossing the main wine production areas and taking you by 67 often picturesque communes. The first weekend in September, often just before the harvest, Ribeauvillé holds its Pfifferdaj, the fiddlers festival, a remarkable event, taking you back into local, lively and colourful themes of their Medieval times.
