Crozes-Hermitage
Syrah
Flagship appellation in the northern Rhône Valley; an opinion of many
France, Rhône Valley, Crozes-Hermitage, Les 3 Lys, AOC, Syrah, 2012

Introduction
Produced by the co-operative Cave de Tain l’Hermitage, founded in 1933, which handles about 50% of the appellations within the northern part of the Côtes du Rhône area. Syrah is the only red varietal vinified by the Cave de Tain. A trend in the area for some of the producers is to bottle their own, sparked on by some newcomers in the area.

The Cave, based in Tain l’Hermitage, produces and markets 5 ‘cru’ wines and single varietal Vins de Pays from the area; appellation Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint Joseph, Cornas and Saint Pernay, making it a leading producers of ‘cru’ wines in the Northern Rhône Valley. They consider Crozes-Hermitage their speciality.

Insights:
The Cave has undergone major renovations, not losing its eye on quality. The current cellar, in addition to its new installations, still holds ‘The Selections’ Cellar’. The cellar now boasts an extra capacity of 280 casks (in addition to the already existing 2,500 ones), dedicated to the production of the white parcel selections (Hermitage Au Cœur des Siecles, Saint-Joseph Terre d’Ivoire etc.) and 3 small 6hl- concrete vats, catering for more demanding plots, such as Roussanne in Crozes-Hermitage. Les 3 lys – the 3 lillies; who are reflected in the background of the label.
