Vacqueyras
Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre
Outstanding reputation ‘Village’ red wine
France, Rhône, Vacqueyras, La Font du Caillou, 2011

Introduction
This Vacqueyras, named after the village and one of the Côte du Rhône Villages, can have its own village name with its own AOP (formerly AOC), a similar status to Châteuneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. La Font du Caillou is linked to Annie Camollonga, Domaine de la Verde. The attractive labelling shows vineyards with the village of Vacqueyras in the background.

The vineyard is keen on authenticity, often also as described under the wine regulations for the Vacqueyras, such as the embossed bottles. They have their corks from the Provence regions, as part of their sustainability credentials. The small vineyard has a small range of red wines and a rosé, where they vary or reduce the individual grapes content or add another, cinsault.

Insights:
Vacqueyras is a small commune in de Vaucluse département and has 1200 inhabitants. The other ‘Villages’ are similar in size. It is part of the southern Rhône wine region, along the river Ouvèze. Wines have been around since the 15th century and in 1937 Vacqueyras became an AOC Côte du Rhône and in 1990 it received its own AOC. More Villages with their own AOC are Beaumes- de-Venise and Vinsobres. AOC (before mentioned as formerly) is still widely used.
