Petit Chablis comes from vineyards surrounding those of Chablis itself
France, Chablis, Petit Chablis, AOC, Union des Viticulteurs de Chablis, 2013

Introduction
The vineyards for the Petit Chablis are in the Yonne department, 110 miles south east from Paris. Chablis and Petit Chablis wines are grown around the town of Chablis, with the river Serein running through the middle. Petit Chablis is a fairly small production in comparison to Chablis and some of the other appellations in the Yonne region.

The Chardonnay is the main grape for the region, for Chablis and Petit Chablis. The region produces some red wines. Petit Chablis has its own AOC and its growing conditions are not as favourable as the Chablis wines. Petit Chablis comes from vineyards surrounding those of Chablis itself.

Insights:
Chablis itself is a very well respected wine, strong tastes and often ages remarkably well, in some cases at its best at about 10 years of age. Chablis is known for its oak aging, but there are producers that move away from that, as the trends among (white) wine drinkers are changing. It compares well with the qualities of the Burgundy wines, which are situated approx. 50 miles and more to the south.
