Sablet
Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre
Another Rhône-Village AC, just good
France, Rhône, Sablet, Côtes-du-Rhône Villages, AC, Les Quéradières, 2011
Introduction
Sablet, one of the Côte du Rhône Villages, a small village at the foot of the slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail, the mountains that dominate the Côtes du Rhône vineyards. Sablet is near to Gigondas, Rasteau, Plan de Dieu, Cairanne, Séguret and other Areas/Villages, all just to the east/north east of the town of Orange, part of the Southern Rhône wine region.
Sablet is a small village, its name permitted to be connected with the Cotes-du-Rhone Villages AC on the labelling, like the other 19 villages, with the latest ones added in 2016. The cooperative goes back to 1935, with 500 hectares, based in Sablet and is linked to Les Vignerons du Gravillas, with their various wines labels repeating their ‘crowned’ tower. ‘La Griffe d’Élegance des Côtes-du-Rhône’ – The elegant signature of the Côtes-du-Rhône.

Insights:
The village of Sablet’s history starts in the 9th Century, where ‘les remparts’ (the fortifications) were build to protect the inhabitants. Phylloxera hit the area as well and it was a Sabletain, Francois Leydier, who invented a machine for grafting, contributing significantly during this period. Like the other villages the communities are quite small, in this case ca. 1300 people, with the main industries wine making and tourism.
