Givry
Pinot Noir
Versatile wine for nearly all food types
France, Burgundy, Givry, Domaine de Berlenoy, AC, 2014

Introduction
Givry by Domaine de Berlenoy, which is linked to MLC Vins, négociant based in Beaune. The company has a vast amount of Burgundy wines in its portfolio. They represent all of the five AOC’s in de Côte Chalonnaise, a stretch of 20-50 kilometres south of Beaune. Givry is the smallest subregion of the five, named after the town and is nearly fully dedicated to red wine, 80%, made from Pinot Noir.

The white Givry is made from Chardonnay. The AOC was awarded in 1946, for red and white and there are in total 27 Premier Cru vineyards in the Chalonnaise region. MLC covers nearly all wine districts in the Burgundy, incl. Chablis and Beaujolais, each with their own in-house specialist. Further, they have a presence in the Rhône and Languedoc-Roussillion, with their business motto: ‘We work directly with the best wine growers in the best French terroirs’, ‘for the buyers and the brokers’.

Insights:
MLC: 4 regions, 150 appellations and 365 growers. The five sub-areas in the Côte Chalonnaise are, from north to south, Bouzeron, Rully, Mercurey, Givry, Montagny. There are no Grand Crus. Between the regions there is a variation in producing reds and/or whites. Rully makes more whites, Mercurey more red, Montagny’s AOC is based on white and Bouzeron’s AOC is solely based on the white Aligoté grape. The Challonnaise region produces also good red and white wines under the AOC Bourgogne-Côte Challonnaise. Blending within Givry’s crus is regulated.
